Poetry #2 Having it all
This poem was created during one of the journaling group sessions I’m a member of over a year ago, inspired by a Barbara Ras poem…
You can’t have it all but you can have each day a fresh beginning- made better by a hot, milky sweet mug of coffee.
You can have the birdsong as the sun rises and you stand at the back door, wrapped in a soft dressing gown, drinking that coffee.
OR you can have a slow start,
curtains opened and said coffee from the comfort of your bed.
You can have moments of pure love and giggles and sleepy morning cuddles.
You can feel the sun on your skin and listen to waves lap the beach
OR you can wrap in many layers,
hat and scarf and listen to the waves crash ashore.
You can have unexpected peaceful days, no tantrums or short tempers just easy house leavings and fun in the mundane life.
You can have a dog’s intense gaze which asks for you to make room for him to curl against you, warm & soft and close.
You can have bedtime stories and good night kisses.
You can have a love who loves you as your perfectly imperfect self,
You can have the experience of loving someone so wholly that the intense grief of the future is beyond worth their presence in the now.
You can have daffodils and tulips after the dark cold days,
You can have the first bloom of the peony bush and the birds and squirrels eating the food you provide.
You can have early Autumn days with the first cold nip of promises of cosy nights, trick or treat, fireworks and Christmas.
You can’t have it all but you can have this one precious, remarkable life - ready to be grasped with both hands, but not before that hot, milky sweet mug of coffee.
If creative writing or journaling or just being part of a lovely group of women is your thing, then you definitely need some of
in your life.Go gently with yourself, friend.
Gorgeous. I’d totally forgotten about this prompt. Just gorgeous ❤️
